Hey, Mama! Thanks for dropping by. I’m Carol, a stay-at-home mom of two adorable girls, living the island life. You might assume that living in such a picturesque location leaves me with little to complain about. However, just like you, I face a lot of challenges in my journey as a mom.
Before I became a mother, I devoted almost a decade of my life to the corporate world, with the majority of my experience in the hotel industry. Eventually, I made the decision to leave my corporate job and pursue my passion for cooking by enrolling in culinary school. Using my new skills, I started a small food business.
However, life took an unexpected turn when I became pregnant. Given the challenges of my pregnancy at the time, I had to stop my business and focus on the journey to motherhood. A few months after welcoming my first daughter, we relocated to Camotes Island, a charming spot just off the coast of Cebu, Philippines.
My journey through motherhood has been filled with surprises. I attended a childbirth class to prepare for the delivery of my first child, and it proved immensely helpful. However, I was unprepared for the challenges of postpartum. Without realizing it, I navigated through postpartum depression and anxiety, simply going through the motions of being a first-time mom.
Moving to the island after becoming a mom brought its share of ups and downs. We made the move just before the pandemic hit in 2020, and although we didn’t feel its impact due to our comfortable living space and the natural surroundings, I experienced a sense of isolation. Unable to travel and connect with family and friends, I unknowingly continued to struggle with postpartum challenges.
Two years later, after giving birth to my second child, my postpartum challenges resurfaced, and my emotional needs remained unmet. I felt lost in motherhood, struggling mentally and emotionally, reacting in ways that weren’t helpful, and constantly stuck in fight-or-flight mode.
Determined to be a better mother and give my children the best, I set goals for health, wellness, and personal growth—unaware that I was embarking on a holistic self-care journey.
My journey as a mother is all about constant growth.
I’ve learned the power of self-care, which guided me back to myself after losing my way in the relentless demands of motherhood. Through self-discovery, I went from merely going through the motions to truly thriving, embracing the journey to becoming the best version of myself.
